September 1, 2013 : Garages, Closets and Drawers

Dr.  Burnie R.  Burnside

Psalm 130

God's love and forgiveness can reach down and lift us out of our of sin.

The Unescapable Truth is:  There Are No Perfectly Pure People.

There is NO difference, ALL have sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23).

It's easy to condemn others who get caught in moral failures.

Sin and carnality is a part of human nature.

Our Hearts Are Our Home’s Garage, Closets, Drawers.

They hold those things that we don't want exposed to plain.

A biblical definition for  all these hidden pieces and places of ourselves is sin.

Each of us has a sin problem - moral failings.

Each of us refuses to let God be God in us.

There is a force operating within  human nature that pulls us away from God.

That force operating with us is sin.

What Makes it Possible for God to Love Us?

God is One who keeps careful accounting of all accrued debt of sin.

What the penitent sinner finds is a God  whose accounting details have been replaced with forgiveness, love, and redemptive power.

Two divine qualities enable us to live with hope:

First:  God's steadfast love that endures and remains despite all our sins.

Second is the divine power to redeem.

What encouragement are we giving each other here in church?  Is this the first place sinners want to come?  Or the last place?   Aren't we all the same thing . . . sinners, saved by grace?
