Building Bridges Series
The Bridge
TEXT: John 1:1-26
Many of us cross bridges everyday and never give it much thought. Webster’s defines a bridge in several different ways but I am using the definition of "A structure built over a river, a chasm, etc., to provide a way across. A thing that provides connection, contact, etc."
Building Bridges can be an Enormous and Difficult Undertaking.
Example: Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
The account of the greatest bridge ever is found in the Bible.
God’s Bridge Builder for humanity to cross into eternal life is Jesus.
John the Baptist was one of God’s Bridge Builders.
God sent John to tell the world about the one to come ….. The Ultimate Bridge.
John was a powerful bridge builder always point people to Jesus.
The Apostle John was also a powerful bridge builder telling us about God.
John tells why God sent Jesus into the world - to be a bridge builder.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood." (John 1:1-5).
The disciples - Andrew, Peter, Phillip, and Nathanael - were all bridge builders.
Jesus was God in the flesh - The Bridge between the Divine and humankind.
With his blood Jesus built a bridge.
Jesus died and was resurrected so that we would have a bridge to cross over into the kingdom of Heaven.
He paid for our sins with his very life and in doing so constructed the strongest most magnificent bridge any of us will ever cross.
"5For there is one God and one mediator [bridge] between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men...." (1 Timothy 2:5-6a).
