Becoming Like A Child
Matthew 18:1-10
When Jesus told the twelve to become like little children what qualities was he espousing?
Children Haven’t Lost Their Sense of Wonder
Children marvel at what God has done; adults become blasé about this world.
If we are going to be childlike then we need to regain our sense of wonder. We need to marvel that God created us.
"What god is so great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. With your mighty arm you redeemed your people...." (Psalm 77:13b-15a).
David prayed in Psalm 139:13-16
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."
Children Haven’t Lost Their Ability to Trust.
Do we trust our Heavenly Father as much as children trust their earthly father, or trust their Heavenly Father.
Children’s prayers are answered because they perfectly trust God to be true to his promises.
As a church, if we are going to be everything that God wants us to be there will be times that we will need to step out in faith and trust God 100%’
(Psalm 56:3) "But when I am afraid, I put my trust in you."
Children Never stop asking for help
Psalm 30:2 "O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me."
Kids have no problem asking for help, but as they get older they begin to want to do things on their own and refuse help.
Christianity is not about trying to pull yourself up on our own it is about realizing that when we are at the end of the rope there is a hand waiting to pull us.
If we want to experience being a kid before Him, We can never stop asking for help.
Never stop shouting
Matthew 21:12-17 "Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. "It is written," he said to them, "‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it a ‘den of robbers.’" The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple area, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were indignant. "Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him. "Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read, "‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’ ?"
If we want to experience being a kid before Him, our lives can never stop shouting to Him.
Never stop running into His arms
Mark 10:13-16 "People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them."
As adults we are always trying to earn things on our own, do things on our own, but these little children knew there was nothing that they could do to earn the Love of Jesus. All they had to do was run into His arms.
"Anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."
So where are you at today? How childlike are you? Are you coming to Christ as a child or are you just acting childish? The choice is yours.
