The Importance of Vision from God
Nehemiah 1:1-4
It was probably the best job in the kingdom. And he never let a day go by without thanking God for being where he was. And he really didn't relish the thoughts of disrupting his life at all. He wasn't going to let anything ruin the good thing he had going.
It's very easy to get comfortable in this life.
A lot of Christians are comfortable but they really aren't doing anything for the kingdom.
Do we want to spend our life playing church or do we want to change our world.
God intrudes into our comfort zone to remind us that we have a mission.
We discover that we have a purpose for being here.
Mission: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20).
Definition of a Christian: "these who have turned the world upside down have come here too." (Acts 17:6)
"If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that I can rebuild it." (Neh 2:5).
True vision from God means personal responsibility.
As Christians we don't function alone.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13 nkjv)
What the walls were to Jerusalem, our lives are before God.
The walls of our lives are often in ruins through neglect.
Evaluation: take serious inventory of your true spiritual condition.
Reconstruction: Consistency is the need of the hour. But erosion is our constant battle.
Perseverance: determine to stay with it until the mission is accomplished.
Don’t just repent! Rebuild! Persevere! Never give up! If your heart has grown cold toward Christ and His church, deal with the problem now. Allow the Holy Spirit to form within your heart a thirst and willingness to be what God called you to be.
