TAKING JESUS WHERE YOU LIVE
Mark 1:21-39
The first thing Jesus says to us is follow me.... The first step in discipleship is to connect with God. In connecting with God we leave our old paths and follow Jesus. Today, I want to ask another question about following Jesus.
Is there spiritual life after the benediction? The benediction is not the end of spiritual life; it is the beginning. The church does not vanish when the service is over. The secret of following Jesus is taking Jesus where we live.
The First Thing Jesus Did with His Newly Formed Group of Followers Was to Go to the Church with Them on the Sabbath
Jesus cultivated the habit of Sabbath worship.
Jesus went to Church to serve others.
When Jesus went to Church the lives of others were changed.
After the Benediction, Jesus Went Home with Peter
(vv. 29-31).At first glance, taking Jesus home with him was the wrong thing to do, for there were difficulties and problems and needs there.
The Jesus who touched the church with glory touched the home with glory, too.
The Church and the home are tied together.
The Influence of Jesus Spread to the Community
(vv. 32-34).When Jesus makes a difference in your home others will notice and come to Him.
Ministry should flow from church, to home, to community.
Prayer Influenced the Expanding Ministry of Jesus
(vv. 35-39).There are times when we all need to get alone in prayer.
Private prayer should lead to a world vision.
Jesus left a trail of glory and blessing from church to home to community to country. The idea that Jesus really wants to go where we live must grip our minds until we cease the terrible habit of leaving Him in the pews. Take Him home where your needs are.
